Heavy. A 5.5-quart round Dutch oven weighs roughly 11 lbs empty; lifting with food inside is a two-handed task.
Avoid thermal shock. Do not move a hot Dutch oven directly under cold water or set a cold pot on a screaming-hot burner.
Enamel can chip if the pot is dropped or struck hard. Surface chips on the rim or exterior are cosmetic; interior chips warrant retirement.
Premium investment. Expect to pay several hundred dollars for the classic round Dutch oven sizes.
Best for braises, stews, soups, breads, and slow-cooked one-pot meals — less suited for high-heat searing in volume.
